Message:

Dear Sir/Madam

In collaboration with the Wesleyan International Relations Association (WIRA), a student-run society at the Wesleyan University, the Lahore University of Management Sciences Model UN Society (LUMUN) initiated a special project-based committee. Students from around thirty institutions of Pakistan gathered during January 2012 to deliberate upon possible social entrepreneurship ventures that could revive or further the economic activity in flood affected areas of Pakistan.

We have a seed fund of USD 3200 to implement a proposal.

One of our proposals is based on the Arbor Loo system. We want to know if this has encountered any problems in the areas where you have implemented it.

Kindly send a response as soon as possible.

Regards

It would be helpful if you phrase the title differently for people to answer. Perhaps "What are challenges while implementing Arbor Loo?"

A search on our IRC web site on arborloo gives two articles that may be of interest to you: Assessment of CRS Experience with Arborloos

And: Ethiopia: the success of the ArborLoo latrine.

In addition, the Performance Improvement through Learning in Sanitation Programme in Uganda carried out action research on the Arbor Loo in 2011.

The following documents may be of use: cost estimate for an arborloo made of local materials and a guide on how to shift arborloos. See https://www.irc.nl/page/70809

The first document provides details about the average cost of building an Arborloo latrine in Northern Uganda, at the end of 2011. This cost estimate, which was also translated in Luo language, can be used by local government and NGO/CBO staff in the Acholi region to inform communities and schools that are interested in having an Arborloo toilet built. It is also a guiding document for local latrine masons.

The second document provides information on how to move a full arborloo and gives suggestions on what to do with the space afterwards.

Dear Vera, The best place to look for experiences with arbor loos is in Zimbabwe. An engineer, from Zimbabwe, Peter Morgan, was one of teh developers of this type of toilet. If you google for his experiences with arbor loos, you will definitely get useful tips. Best,

Stef Smits

Hi Stef, I think perhaps the button was missing, but in principle you add a comment under the question for something like this, since it is not a direct answer but rather a suggestion about how to find the answer. Of course the question could have been phrased differently.
