Resources to support workers in the field

The following question has been sent by Chris of Vergennes in Vermont, USA:

My name is Chris. I found your site when looking for resources to support aid workers in the field. I am looking for materials or trainings on self care, mental health, and providing support for employees working in the field. Is there any where you might direct me?

Thank you in advance for your time. Best, Chris

Hi Chris, I have just seen the same question asked earlier with the response I have reposted below. Also I can guide you to our training courses advertised on our website, these might help give workers an insight as to what to expect and encourage them to have support networks in place as much as they can themselves, or decide it is not for them. Self care is very important as we want to be part of the solution not the problem, as I am sure you know. I understand that relief workers in the field can find other relief workers supportive at times of need, however self reliant we are or must become. I hope this helps, we may hear from experienced relief workers and how they have manged, but in the meantime I hope this helps. Best wishes Pauline RedR

Have you found https://disasterready.csod.com/LMS/ca...

This is more related to disaster relief situations, but they do have some stuff on staff safety and welfare.

Hi Chris,

You may also be interested in a series of articles The Guardian's Global Development Professionals Network has published recently: https://www.theguardian.com/global-dev...

And the blog post that started it all: https://7piliers.com/post/124236918507...

It seems like attention is finally being paid to this often neglected issue, so I hope we'll see more and more resources appear in the near future.

Best wishes,

Rachel
