There is a huge amount of information available. We ourselves run training courses in all these areas - see our website for more details https://www.redr.org.uk. We also have Engineering in Emergencies, an excellent book that covers a lot of very practical aspects of all parts of humanitarianism, available from our website or amazon.com.
In terms of free resources - you can look at the WASH pages of www.humanitarianreform.org website and go to the project pages for training materials in water, sanitation and hygiene in emergencies. John Hopkins University, WEDC at Loughborough University and University of Wisconsin have modules on emergency WASH for distance learning, but not all are free.
For humanitarianism - a bit more difficult - see also engineering in emergencies. You could look at www.aidworkers.net for advice, see also www.alertnet.org and www.reliefweb.net for lists of resources
Security is also not easy for free materials - the UN has an online security test - https://dss.un.org/dssweb/ but for UN and their partner organisations. Books - probably the best still are K Van Brabant - Operational Security Management in Violent Environments (for security management), David Lloyd Roberts - Staying Alive (for personal security) but both, especially the second has a more international NGO focus, the first would still be a good book to look at for security management.

WEDC and the Sphere Project both provide online training and resources on WASH and humanitarian issues. Other very good free online repositories are SuSanA and Medbox.
Dear opening poster, if you work for a NGO/INGO etc you can apply to join disasterready.org which offers a free course on all the subjects you mentioned including safety and security, that being said as mentioned earlier free books for NGO safety and security are hard to find you can source them from a number of places:
- The NGO safety/security network in your host nation
- UNDSS Office at your host nation or even by visiting their website
- Excellent community at INSSA: https://ingossa.org/
- Care International's handbook is also available on-line and is very comprehensive, if you Google "Care International Safety and Security Handbook" it should come up with a pdf file to download and read.
Hope this helps you.
Check this site:

The first stop for information about sanitation I think should be Duncan Mara's website: https://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~cen6...
SANDEC also have a number of useful publications: https://www.eawag.ch/en/department/san...
As do the IWA: https://www.iwawaterwiki.org/xwiki/bin...
https://bookboon.com/en have a number or free to download textbooks that may also be of interest.
The SuperAmma campaign is the culmination of years of behavioural science research to inculcate the habit of handwashing with soap. We designed a communication campaign based on the Evo-Eco theory of behaviour change. Here we make available the approach and the materials that worked successfully in Southern India to inspire and assist you in your behaviour change campaign.
There are many excellent publications which you can find on www.watersanitationhygiene.org Good luck!
I highly recommend the Water Aid/Oxfam publication "In the Public Interest: Health, Education, Water and Sanitation for All". I have used it as a reference point for many of my project and funding proposals. The citation index alone is worth its weight in gold.
Also, for the same purposes, I advise picking up a copy of "The Big Necessity: The Unmentionable World of Human Waste and Why it Matters", by Rose George. Solid history of the watsan movement.
WEDC and UNICEF have also published recommendations for including MHM (Menstrual Hygiene Mgt.) in WASH protocols. I recommend searching for articles by Dr. Marni Sommer.
Hello,
You can try to have a look to Engineering in Emergencies handbook
or this webiste water, sanitation, vector control and hygiene in emergency settings
Cheers,
Debora
