Sourcing material in Uganda for solar heaters, biomass generator and other smaller projects.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm emailing on behalf of a project we're currently working on in Uganda. I'm part of the London branch and we're working with Kumi hospital on a number of smaller projects including raising of a water pump which is in a floodplain and hence floods in the rainy season, installation of a biomass generator, and the project that I'm directly involved in which is providing one or more solar water heaters for the site.

We are aiming to design the systems ourselves, which need to heat and purify the water. I'm currently looking into sourcing the components required, with the water tank itself seeming the hardest one to source.

I was wondering if you have any information or advice that could help us in sourcing the components for such a project, or any advice around the area. The solar heater we’re planning is standalone and will draw water directly from the mains. It will include a storage tank, a filter/purifier and a solar panel. The heated water will be supplied to the hospital units for direct use.

Some of the components we’ll be using are:

Plywood, hardwood, timber batons, screws/bolts etc, copper piping, flex pipe, aluminum sheeting, black high temperature metallic paint, a storage tank for the water, insulation for the tank/piping and a water filter. We’ll also need so get some concrete for the base.

Any advice on how to source these materials would be greatly appreciated – or advice generally for that matter.

Kind Regards,

Joe C.
