How to lift water from 2 m to 5 m height using hydraulic ram pump?
I had constructed a hydraulic ram pump of 1 inch diameter to lift water from 2m height to 5m height. I followed all the precautions, but still it is not working , any suggestions?

I'm afraid that I don't have a great deal of knowledge about Ram Pumps and have not worked with them in the field, but they are very simple and normally easy to use.
I suggest that Binaya have a look at "A Handbook of Gravity Flow Water Systems" by Thomas D. Jordan Jnr. ISBN 0-946688-50-8 pages 154 - 157 as a first step. whilst the book is out of print, there is a website where you can download it (please click here).

Thanks Tim
Not sure Practical Action Publishing would agree that Gravity Flow Water Systems is out of print, see: https://developmentbookshop.com/handbook-of-gravity-flow-water-systems-pb Best reference I know however for hydraulic ram pumps is: https://developmentbookshop.com/water-lifting-devices.html The great strength of the latter book is that the authors are not advocating any one system, simply outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each to inform decisions. I would be happy to scan and share relevant pages if publishers would give RedR permission. Best

Unfortunately we cannot give permission from the publishers but we hope the links provide useful.

Hi Binaya Thanks for your enquiry. I'm sure there is lots of expertise to help you on this forum but we will need some additional information on your project first. Could you for example let us know what 'precautions' you followed or where you were getting your design from? Some more details about the problem would also help. Is the water lifting but not enough, is it not lifting at all, etc.? Hopefully we can offer some help once we have this. Thanks.
